What's this blog all about?

Who’s the author?

A self-proclaimed skeptic and critical thinker. Ever the curious boy while growing up, I turned to science to find the answers to my exceedingly long list of questions. I read books, watched documentaries, and pestered countless teachers and professors.

The Relatively Interesting Blog (call it TRIB, for short), is a product of my quest for truth through the veil of pseudoscience and “woo”. I hope to share some of the more interesting things in life – and demonstrate that science is as beautiful, mystical, and fantastical as many of the claims that pseudoscience allege.

I’ve always had a keen interest for the unexplained – paranormal or not. As I read through paranormal books and magazines, I never really found solid evidence to make me believe in any of the stuff I was reading. Sure, I got spooked from ghost stories, and could have sworn I’ve seen a UFO or two, but after the shivers wore off, I questioned myself – did I really just see a UFO? Did I really just feel the presence of a ghost? Is there a simple explanation for this? Why are ghosts spooky? Why do so many people share the same experiences? Why is it I can’t seem to find real proof, other than shady photographs or videos?

Then, one fateful day at Chapters, I discovered
Skeptic Magazine. I had no idea that there was an entire group just like me – curious individuals - looking to find “truth”. So I read up on skepticism, bought more magazines, subscribed to podcasts, asked more questions, researched, and finally, decided to launch my own blog or site to go even deeper into the subject.

This blog is not about cutting people down with negativity and narrow-mindedness. This blog is about having an open mind, taking mainstream news with a grain of salt, and promoting critical thought in everyday life. I do believe, that if us humans thought critically more often, we’d spend much more time on much more important things.

I suppose now is a good time for my disclaimer: I am not an expert – but I will stand on the shoulders of giants, and reference their work and discoveries where possible. I will not reinvent the wheel, as there is an abundance of resources out there, waiting to be collected and shared.

What else?

Well, you’ll be able to check out
our YouTube channel and various pictures and images – all to support the content of these articles. I’ll post different ways you can get involved in the skeptical movement and link to a host of resources that you will find essential in your quest to find truth. I also plan to use this blog as a forum for debate – there’s nothing like a good ole fashioned argument, and I will not shy away from “the issues”. On occasion, I will point out interesting articles, and sometimes they’ll be related to science, sometimes not. I’ll throw in a few guest articles as well, and maybe, one day, we’ll get a podcast out of this.

What will we talk about? Oh, I don’t know… maybe the anti-vaccination movement, maybe homeopathy, UFO’s, bigfoot, Loch Ness, common myths and misconceptions, creationism, intelligent design, doomsday prophecies, conspiracy theories, pyramid schemes, cryptozoology, pseudoscience, astrology, psychics, telekinesis, iridology, therapeutic touch, and much, much more.

Hopefully, you will find this blog, well, relatively interesting.
